Goodbye, my friend.
May. 17th, 2010 01:59 pmThanks for all the prayers and well-wishes and positive vibes in the comments to my previous post. Unfortunately, it was all too late. Kenny apparently had a heart attack and was most likely dead when he hit the pavement. They got his heart re-started, but he'd been without oxygen too long. There were never any reflexes, response to pain, light, nothing. We stood vigil for two days, but in the end, had to let him go. It was one of the hardest things. Just shy of his 58th birthday and WAY WAY WAY too young. He was much loved by everyone he met. My boys feel like they lost their second dad. He was one of those guys who knew how to do just about anything and was always willing to help you with whatever needed to be done, and by god, he would work his *ass* off for you. The world is definitely a sadder, emptier place without him.
My husband and I both lost our fathers within a year of each other, back in 1990. Now we've each lost a lifelong best friend within 7 months of each other. I still miss Becky--there's a piece of my heart missing, and now my husband has the same thing.
So one thing's for sure. Live like there's no tomorrow, because we truly don't know when our time will be cut short. One minute Kenny was living life the way he loved, and the next he was gone, leaving us all behind. Hug your loved ones tight today and tell them how much you love them, and say, Kenny told me to do that. I think that'd make him happy.
